Sažetak

Diaphragmatic hernia is any dislocation of the abdominal organs into the thoracic cavity through a diaphragmatic defect. The defect in the diaphragm may be congenital, but most often it is acquired, generally as the result of increased abdominal pressure. Peritoneopericardial diaphragmatic hernias (PPDHs) as congenital anomalies, occur in cats with incomplete development of the diaphragm. Almost any of the abdominal viscera may herniate into the thoracic cavity through the defect, but liver and small intestine are most commonly involved. This article presents gross findings of diaphragmatic hernia in two cats necropsied at the Department of Veterinary Pathology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Zagreb.
