Sažetak
Water management in the function of agricultural production is one of the most important branches of water management. Irrigation is an amelioration measure by which water is brought to the land through a hydraulic system in order to achieve the humidity necessary for the growth and development of the plant. The fact is that irrigation achieves more stable agricultural production, which means higher and better yields. This paper presents a broader picture of irrigation in the continental part of Croatia, in the development of an irrigation system that is a prerequisite for the stabilization of agricultural production. The development and improvement of protection against the harmful effects of water is a basic condition for the sustainability of agricultural production on agricultural land within the inundations of most Croatian watercourses. The paper presents the results of research on water use in the irrigation system based on irrigation plans, ie an overview of spatial benefits of land for irrigation in Koprivnica-Krizevci County, Virovitica-Podravina and Varazdin Counties, all in the function of improving sustainable agricultural production. The legislative framework, strategic and planning basis that define water management in Croatia are presented below, with special reference to the part that defines the manner and conditions of water management in the field of irrigation of agricultural production.
