Abstract


SUMMARY: It is vital to provide for employees adequate health and safety conditions at work, particularly for professional musicians in the music business, who experience exposure to noise, as their very career depends on suitable working conditions. Inadequate health and safety precautions against the effects of noise result, after long years of playing or working in the music industry, in the loss of hearing for many employees. The noise produced by various instruments and other sources may thus present a serious hazard, which needs to be addressed with suitable measures, such as appropriate working conditions, workplace arrangement, use of personal protective equipment etc., all with the basic aim of providing suitable health and safety at work to all involved in the music business. This article presents some hazards related to noise in the music business and suggests solutions for ensuring a suitable workplace arrangement, working conditions, work equipment and the use of personal protective equipment.
