Sažetak

Using revision and a systematic approach to teaching language, and especially to the history of the Croatian standard language, is a great challenge for teachers concerning creativity in finding new, interesting, and contemporary forms of teaching. The language is
rich, diverse and multi-layered, but first of all it is rooted in history. Following the development of the history of Croatian using revision a systematic approach to teaching, we come to the historical and semantic features of the standard language laid out in grammar, orthography and dictionaries. The games of association, research, posters, and mental maps are some modern teaching methods. Mental maps are a non-linear way of thinking formed by economy, openness, flexibility and the speed of data research, while the play, research and posters develop attention and preoccupation, independent conclusion, creativity, and critical thinking.
