Sažetak
Pancreatitis in childhood is as common as in adults, with wide spectrum of etiologies and with relatively low risk of complications and mortality. Considering common non-typical clinical presentation and laboratory characteristics, especially in infants and younger children, timely recognition is of major importance. Early diagnosis, targeting detection of causes, would point out the group of children with risk of early and late complications as well as of progression to chronic pancreatitis. In a significant number of patients, accurate therapeutic approach could lead to lower morbidity and decreased risk of acute and chronic complications, enabling normal growth and development with good quality of life.
