Sažetak

The paper defines the concept of neomedievalism and explores the problems related to it. The paper is primarily based on Umberto Eco’s theoretical assumptions that are systematically applied to three representative models; Tolkien’s, Disney’s and that of George R. R. Martin. The aim of the comparative valorization is the analysis of popular culture’s interpretation of the medieval imaginary and the categorization of selected examples of that culture within the existing models. Finally, the author, based on a comparative analysis, tries, within the narrow limits of the work, to explain the complex network of motivations for recreating medievalism and its manifestations in the modern society of the 20th and 21st centuries.
