Sažetak

Natural regeneration of economically significant broad-leaved species of the Panonian
region has been questionable for more than half a century, so the need for the cultivator to
intervene either by seed or seedlings is necessary. From the scientific point of view, opting
for natural regeneration by acknowledged seed stands which provide normal seed of improved
genetic quality is undoubtedly the best solution to the problem. Acknowledged seed
stands are sections of production forests which are of high quality and were extracted with
an aim of obtaining high-quality fructification, which is a result of improved phoenotypical
quality achieved through targeted selective thinning – felling of phoenotypically negative
seed-giving tree species and improved genetic quality of normal seed produced. Bigger part
of existing acknowledged seed stands does not meet those requirements because the planned
targeted selective thinnings have only partially been carried out within the programme of
cultivation and genetic melioration. Consequently, there is no substantial difference between
productive and acknowledged seed stands with reference to genetic quality of normal
seed.
