Sažetak

After discharge of 55-year-old patient from the Intensive care unit, enteral feeding was inadvertently administered intravenously at the hospital ward resulting in a severe deterioration of the patient’s cardiorespiratory status, which was manifested by tachydyspnea and sweating with tachycardia, hypotension, and hypoxia. After readmission, the patient’s condition stabilized again after four days of intensive care. He was treated with oxygen therapy, crystalloid solutions and stimulation of diuresis, antibiotic and corticosteroid therapy along with proton pump inhibitors. In contrast, the patient’s condition did not require mechanical ventilation or inotropic support. This case demonstrates the need for ongoing education of medical personnel to prevent such cases in the future.
