Sažetak

Treatment and disposal of excess sludge generated in waste water treatment plants is an increasingly important current problem due to ecological, economic and regulatory reasons, thus much attention is paid to the development and use of new processes that generate less sludge than the current processes. The paper presents the most frequently used chemical, mechanical, thermal and biological processes integrated in the water line of waste water treatment plants that cause cell lysis, separation of catabolic and anabolic biological pathways or predation of bacteria present in sludge, thus reducing the generation of this waste material. In addition, the characteristics of different process of sludge preliminary treatment are described, along with their advantages and disadvantages. Based on published research results, data on their efficiency, feasibility and current status are also included, as well as the main parameters influencing the efficiency and sustainability of these processes.
