Abstract

Members of the Speleological Department of the Croatian Mountaineering Club »Sniježnica« began actively exploring mountain Sniježnica in the spring of 2018. During that first period they conducted reconnaissance of the narrow area between the previously known Glogova (–163 m) and Plješina (–173 m) pits. In the following years, found speleological objects were periodically explored, especially during the winter days. However, the first major research did not take place until June 2021, shortly after the conclusion of the sixth speleological school in the organisation of SD CMC »Sniježnica«. A year later, in June 2022, the first international speleological expedition »1234 Sniježnica« was held on Sniježnica. The expedition lasted for four days and brought together 14 researchers from speleological associations: Speleological Department »Velebit«, Speleological Club »Ozren Lukić«, Speleo Osmica, Speleological Association »Herceg« (B&H), Speleological Association »Zelena Brda« (B&H) and SD CMC »Sniježnica«. In those four days in June, members of the above-mentioned associations »swept away« the harsh terrain of Sniježnica, and explored 28 new speleological objects, with an additional climb in the deepest Konavle pit, Plješina. The expedition began on Wednesday, June 15, and lasted until Sunday, June 19. When everything is transferred into meters, in four days 760 new meters were explored in the bowels of Sniježnica, with a total depth of 430 meters.
