Sažetak
This paper emphasizes the importance of promoting the principles and values that make up the democratic culture of the European Union in the context of the digital age and artificial intelligence, and the need to incorporate this topic into teaching students from primary school age. New technologies have infiltrated all areas of human life, and the digital revolution is transforming and shaping the way we work, inform and make decisions. A significant part of students' daily lives takes place online, and knowing and respecting fundamental rights and democratic values in the digital world from an early age becomes extremely important for every individual. Students should be made aware of the democratic values of the European Union, taught about human and children's rights, digital rights and online safety, and raised awareness of how new technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning can improve or threaten those rights. Students need to be made aware of the ethical issues and bias issues caused by new technologies such as artificial intelligence. An important part is media literacy and training students to recognize fake news, especially those created using artificial intelligence tools. All these topics can be integrated into the teaching of informatics in primary school as part of the achievement of subject outcomes and linked to the interdisciplinary topic of Civic Education. The paper also presents the results of a questionnaire conducted among students participating in an eTwinning project that addressed this topic.
