Role of lung ultrasound in diagnostics, treatment and follow up of respiratory disease in children

Sažetak
Respiratory tract infection is the most common pediatric pathology. Performing lung ultrasound right after taking history and medical exam will clearly confirm existence of lung infection in children. In the case of normal lung ultrasound exam diagnostic algorithm will change a path and unnecessary treatment will be avoided. Lung ultrasound can exactly describe place, size and quality of infiltration. Following same scanning protocol can keep track on changes. Typical artefacts on lung ultrasound will direct us to probably cause of infection and treatment option. Follow up lung ultrasound after 48 hours of treatment or in case of clinical deterioration will determine progression of illness and need for correction of therapy. Lung ultrasound will decrease a need for classical X–ray imaging (chest X–ray, computed tomography). Avoiding exposure of children to radiation will impact malignant induction that children are more prone than adults.
