Sažetak

Relying on the theory that Europeans who came to America projected elements of their own religion and cultural and civilizational heritage on various aspects of indigenous religions, this paper deals with the representation of the Aztec religion in the work Historia general written by friar Bernardino de Sahagún. The work of one of the first missionaries working in New Spain from 1529 to 1590 will be analyzed using the historical imagology method. The three-dimensional analytical model of historical imagology, i.e. textual, intertextual, and contextual analysis, will show how friar Bernardino de Sahagún formed his ideas about the Aztec religion, i.e. how he interpreted the Aztec religion based on his Christian faith and Greco-Roman civilizational heritage.
