Sažetak
The construction sector, especially publicly owned buildings, is one of the most important areas for achieving the goals of European energy policy, which places great responsibility on local authorities. Therefore, this paper starts with the research questions on local experiences in the preparation and implementation of energy renovation projects for public buildings in Croatia, i.e. seeks answers to the questions as to what has been achieved so far and what is important to consider when planning future projects. The purpose of the paper is to provide scientific evidence of the importance of managing energy consumption in public buildings, as one of the determinants of sustainable economy. In order to realize that purpose, a qualitative research based primarily on scientific methods of analysis, induction and case study was applied. The results identified diverse local experiences in Croatia and significant average utilization of funds for public buildings energy renovation projects, suggesting strengthening local capacity and planning for project succession. This represents a scientific contribution in terms of broadening the knowledge and awareness of research audiences about the importance of energy-sustainable behaviour.
