Sažetak
Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is the most common disorder of the venous system,
caused by valvular incompetence in the superficial venous system. This long-term
condition causes significant morbidity and lowers patients' quality of life. Considering it
is expensive, time-consuming, difficult and often with uncertain treatment outcome it is
still a great health, social and economic problem. It is characterised by the development
of hypostatic dermatitis and oedema, accompanied by burning, itching and muscle
cramps, and development of venous ulcers in final stage of the disease. In order to
reduce the risk of complications, early preventive measures, primarily graduated
compression therapy should be initiated as early possible. More serious cases of chronic
venous insufficiency should be treated with surgical or endovenous therapy.
