Sažetak
The aim of this study was to investigate twin pregnancy deliveries in
Virovitica General Hospital Maternity Ward. Data regarding number of deliveries per
year, mother’s age and parity, gestational age, fetal position during labor, the mode of
delivery, child’s gender and birth weight and length was analysed. In the ten year period
there have been 7856 deliveries, out of which 70 (0,89%) were twin pregnancies, with
difference in the occurence of twin pregnancies according to age (0,58% - 1,4%).
Average life age of the women having twins was 28,6 years. There is a high occurence
of twin pregnancies among multiparous women in comparison to primiparous (57,1%
vs. 42,9%). There is higher occurence of breech presentation and transverse position.
Caesarean section is much more frequent at twins (71,4%). The birth of male child is
more frequent with the first (58,7%) and the second twin (52,9%). Average birth weight
is low, and the difference between first and second twin is minimal (2503,1 g vs. 2492,4
g), same as average birth length (46,8 cm vs. 47,2 cm). There was two twin perinatal
deaths in the ten year period. Twin pregnancy and labor are at risk because there is high
percentage of preterm births, low newborn weight, irregular fetus position and Cesarian
section finish.
