Abstract

Inappropriate behaviour towards the environment over a long period of time, the expansion of agricultural areas due to the growing needs for food production, the intensification of production, the increase in the amount of plant protection products and many other factors have influenced the pollution of natural resources that have a direct impact on human health, the quality of living, plant and animal world. The impact of agriculture on the environment is manifested in air, soil and water pollution, and ways of environmental pollution with plant protection products are numerous. The area of fate and behaviour in the environment uses computer models to predict the concentrations of the active substance in the environment, that is, makes an objective assessment of the worst-case scenario of concentrations of the active substance, significant metabolites and the product itself in different parts of the environment. Assessment of predicted environmental concentrations (PEC) is being done for soil, surface water and sediment, groundwater and air. Groundwaters are extremely important for the Republic of Croatia, since they are mainly used for drinking water supply.
