Abstract

The main subject of the article is the play The Sphinx by Branko Vodnik, a dramatic work kept in the author’s manuscript legacy at HDA, unpublished and unperformed. One of the most important Croatian literary historians of the first two decades of the 20th century and a prominent public figure of domestic literary life in the modern era and the 1920s, Vodnik remained unread and uncommented upon as a literary author. The task of this article is to describe the manuscript drama with regard to the prevailing poetics of Croatian modern drama.
