Sažetak

The transformer is a key component in the power system. Its main function is to change the voltage level from high to low or vice versa, enabling efficient transmission and distribution of electrical energy to users. Ensuring the proper functioning of the transformer is crucial to prevent potential faults. Transformer protection involves the implementation of various measures to detect and eliminate potential faults that may occur inside or outside the transformer. Potential faults include insulation failures, overloads, short circuits, external disturbances, and others. If these faults are not detected in a timely manner, they can lead to the transformer's failure and, ultimately, the entire power system, posing risks to the environment and people in the vicinity. Multiple relays, protective schemes, and other devices are responsible for transformer protection. In the case of oil-filled transformers, the gas Buchholz relay plays a vital role in protection. Its main operational function is to detect faults and disconnect the transformer from the rest of the power system when a fault occurs. In addition to these functions, technological advancements over the years have allowed for additional features in the relay, such as monitoring the temperature and moisture levels inside the transformer.
