Sažetak
Objective: The aim of this paper is to present the experience of placing a peripherally introduced central venous catheter at the Clinical hospital center Split. Subjects and methods: Fourteen peripherally introduced central venous catheters were placed at the Internal Medicine Clinic at the Department of Intensive Care Medicine in subjects diagnosed with malignant hematological diseases. As a catheter placement procedure, a modified Seldinger technique was used with the help of a portable ultrasound machine. Results: The procedure of catheter placement in all subjects was without complications. Thrombosis of the vein in which the catheter was placed developed in two subjects during the therapeutic procedure, and in one, the catheter had to be removed due to an infection caused by the catheter. One subject died during treatment. Conclusion: Peripherally introduced central venous catheters enable healthcare workers to adequately and safely apply therapy, and ensure a shorter hospital stay for the patient without significant complications.
