Sažetak
Recognizing and treating an acutely poisoned patient is a major challenge for clinicians. About 30% of the total number of exposures to toxic agents are treated in healthcare facilities. Out of this number, a particular challenge is the treatment of a patient with the poisoning of unknown aetiology. In this recommendation paper, we will present all segments of the approach to a patient with poisoning, which includes initial stabilization, systematic approach to anamnestic clues and physical signs, philosophy of toxidromes, as well as a modern approach to supportive care, decontamination, principles of treatment with antidotes, and enhanced elimination of xenobiotics.
