PERFORMANCE AND/OR EFFECTIVENESS OF TEACHER EDUCATION
Marko Palekčić
; Filozofski fakultet, Sveučilište u Zagrebu
Sažetak
This paper presents selected international empirical studies
on the effectiveness of teacher education. The following studies are presented: Teacher Education Structure in International Comparison Studies (Blömeke, 2006, 2008 and MT21, 2007), Structure of Competences of Students of Teacher Education (Frey, 2004, 2005), and How the World’s Best-Performing School Systems Come Out on Top (McKinesy & Company, 2007). From the perspective of methodology and educational theory, the author critically considers
the potential contributions (and limitations) of these studies to the reforms of teacher education at a national level. In doing so, he seeks answers to the following questions: what do the results of these studies mean for the potential effects of teacher education; can the reality of teacher education be sufficiently described at the level of the system; and what do the results of these studies
mean for the formation, or improvement, of the quality of the teacher education system?
