Sažetak
Aim: The goal of this case report is to present a patient who developed acute kidney failure due to lung cancer which metastasized to the kidneys. Kidney replacement therapy was conducted. Case report: 65- year- old man was admitted to hospital with difficult breathing. During clinical work- up he was diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer (metastases to the liver, kidneys, pleura, intrathoracic and intraabdominal lymph nodes). Normocytic anaemia and elevated urea and creatinine levels were also found (prior to this hospitalization these laboratory parameters were normal). Central venous catheter was inserted and renal replacement therapy was initiated. Further treatment was complicated by sepsis and respiratory insufficiency. Despite antibiotic, supportive and symptomatic therapy, the patient’s condition kept deteriorating. He also became anuric and specific oncologic treatment was not indicated. After three weeks of treatment and conducting dialysis the patient eventually passed away. Conclusion: Acute and chronic kidney failure are frequent among patients suffering from malignant diseases, and are connected with higher risk of morbidity and mortality. It is rare for metastatic malignant disease to cause acute renal failure by kidney infiltration, but this too should be considered in differential diagnosis of acute kidney injury.
