Sažetak
The primary objective of this study is to elucidate the influence of freight transportation on foreign trade within Turkey’s maritime sector. To achieve this goal, data spanning from 2013 to 2023, sourced from the Turkish Statistical Institute and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure's official websites, were utilized. The chosen econometric method for analysis was the time series approach. Economic expansion is depicted through the Industrial Production Index. This research incorporates five variables, all employed in logarithmic form (Export, Import, Volume, Handling, and Index). Unit root tests were employed to examine the stationarity of the series. Regression analysis was conducted utilizing the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method to ascertain the short-term direction of the relationship between the variables. The findings from the Toda-Yamamoto causality test align with those derived from OLS, affirming that within the maritime sector, sea freight transportation exerts a positive impact on foreign trade, particularly in the short term.
