Sažetak

TThyme (Thymus vulgaris L.) is the most widely cultivated species from the genus Thymus in the
world, and two types of cultivars are distinguished based on climatic conditions. In Croatia, thyme is grown in very small areas, with the ‘Deutscher Winter’ variety being the most common. In
collaboration with the Center for Agriculture and Rural Development of Primorsko-Goranska County, a field experiment with thyme was established in Stara Sušica to determine the possibilities
of cultivation using biostimulants and to evaluate the quality of ‘mountain’ thyme. The research
results showed that the cultivation of the ‘Deutscher Winter’ variety is suitable for the mountainous area of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, and the quality of thyme meets the quality criteria
according to the Croatian Pharmacopoeia (1.5 ml/100 g) and the European Pharmacopoeia (1.2
ml/100 g of dried leaves). The average essential oil content of dried thyme leaves from Gorski
Kotar ranged from 1.78% to 2.14%. The highest essential oil content was found in the sample from
the treatment with Ilsamin N90. The quality of thyme also depends on the percentage of leaves in
the thyme herb. It is desirable for the herb to contain more than 50% leaves compared to stems.
In this trial, the percentage of dried thyme leaves in the dried herb ranged from 51.7% to 57.7%.
The highest yield per bush was found in the treatment with AminoVital. The cultivated variety ‘Deutscher Winter’ from organic farming at the Stara Sušica location in Gorski Kotar showed variable
results in yield and quality depending on the type of biostimulator.
