Sažetak
This paper presents a follow-up to the yearlong research oriented to the share of the Croats in the Venetian professional land units – both infantry (Fanti Oltramarini) and cavalry (Cavalleria Croati, Croati a cavallo). The focus of scientific analysis is oriented to people originating from Zadar who were, mainly as privates, active in infantry units. The research rests on the analysis of the material kept at the Archivio di Stato di Venezia (holdings: Inquisitori sopra l’amministrazione dei pubblici ruoli). The paper offers analyses of the shares of infantry and cavalry members from Zadar in the said units, the timespan in which infantry members had been mentioned, and the mention of the soldiers from Zadar who came from the same families, based on the data retrieved from the sources and the according scientific literature. There follows a description of the personal (physical) features of the soldiers (age, built, hair colour), as well as a mention of the locations where they had been listed – in the range between the Venetian terraferma and Greece. The paper furthermore offers a summarised presentation of the commanders (colonels) of companies in which the subject people from Zadar were active. It was concluded that the portion of the people from Zadar – both in the infantry and in the cavalry – was higher than of the soldiers originating from other towns in Dalmatia and Boka. The alphabetic list of all the so far researched soldiers from Zadar in the Venetian infantry may be found as enclosure to this paper.
