Consequences of Amendments to the Regulation on water quality standard for the results of the Combined approach methodology

Sažetak
In the first half of 2023, the Regulation amending the Regulation on water quality standard (OG 20/23 and 50/23-corr.), and shortly afterwards, in July, the River Basin Management Plan until 2027 [1] were adopted. This directly affected the results of calculations using the Combined approach methodology (CAM). The paper provides a critical review of the introduced changes in relation to CAM calculation results on the example of several wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) discharging into coastal waters. The differences in limit values of good ecological status between the original Regulation (OG 66/19) and Amended Regulation (OG 20/23 and 50/23-corr.), which are seen in a mild decrease of limit values for parameter Nitrogen and a significantly stricter one for Total Phosphorus, have been considered. The conclusion of conducted analyses is that the introduced changes will very probably result in a need to implement higher treatment levels (tertiary treatment expected) in individual cases of WWTPs discharging into coastal waters in the Adriatic Basin
