Cultivating a passion for missionary work

Abstract

Missionary work is a vital dimension of the Church and as such an indispensable part of its activity. In this context, we consider many projects conducted in the poorest parts of the world, whether humanitarian ones that improve the quality of life or those of an apostolic nature that bring the Good News of salvation to those who have not yet experienced it. However, today we rarely talk about the motivation for missionary work, or rather the encouragement that drives those who decide to engage in this type of activity. The aim of this article is to show that missionary work is first and foremost a work of evangelization, and than, through that, also a humanitarian work. In both cases, it must draw strength and be nourished. The food for every missionary (whether he/she is a priest, a monk/nun or lay missionary) must be the Bread of Life, Jesus Christ. Starting from the experience of the Eucharistic table, to which we are all invited without distinction, we also arrive at the fact that we are all invited to be heralds of the Kingdom of God, we are sent to invite all people to the Eucharistic feast.
