Abstract

The benefits and advantages of artificial intelligence (AI) lie in its ability to reduce a range of repetitive procedures while also improving diagnostic quality in medical image interpretation. AI offers algorithms for autonomous processing of image data sets, allowing healthcare personnel to dedicate more time to handling a significantly higher number of cases. It is crucial to determine the attitudes of healthcare service users toward AI and its implementation in healthcare, raising the question and opening a discussion on whether AI represents an opportunity to enhance the functioning of the healthcare system. The majority of respondents (143 or 60.3%) agree with the statement that AI is highly useful for ordering medications over the phone. Given that the study primarily involved middle-aged and older populations, this result is understandable, as most patients suffer from one or more chronic illnesses and find it more practical to order medications by phone rather than visiting a doctor’s office. Additionally, a large number of respondents (137 or 57.8%) agree that AI is highly useful for scheduling diagnostic tests such as X-ray, ultrasound (US), CT, MRI, or other examinations. A similar sentiment applies to hospital admissions, where 130 respondents (54.9%) consider AI beneficial. On the other hand, a significant number of respondents (198 or 83.5%) disagree with the statement that AI could completely replace doctors or nurses (194 or 81.9%). The research indicates that people acknowledge AI’s growing role in medicine and healthcare, particularly in facilitating certain technical and administrative tasks, as well as in the analysis of medical data, including images, laboratory results, genetic information, and clinical patient records. However, there is strong skepticism regarding AI’s ability to fully replace the work of doctors, nurses, or other healthcare professionals.
