Abstract

Many family libraries or parts of family libraries have been preserved in the Library Department of the Museum of Slavonia. After the Second World War, large quantities of books, manuscripts, serial publications, as well as many non-book materials, arrived through confiscation, gift or purchase. Among the preserved parts of the family libraries, we have identified the Reisner, Szinicz and Povischil family libraries by looking at the museum documentation. Family libraries are cultural and historical treasures of the city. Each individual unit of material represents a museum object, not only secondary library materials placed in museum departments. Each of them hides its own story, contextualizes a certain time, talks about its owner. All the units together, like museum objects, form a historical, culturally, museologically and visually interesting part, a monumental family library important for interpreting the history of the city.
