THE OLD CROATIAN FINDINGS AND INSIGHT OF VATROSLAV JAGIĆ

Sažetak
This paper focuses on the scientific findings and insight of Vatroslav Jagić in his
formative years, when he lived and worked in Zagreb prior to leaving to Odessa,
when he was most involved in the study of Croatian language and literature. The
majority of discussion is devoted to his Priměri starohèrvatskoga jezika, in which
he shows his textological skills and the breadth and depth of his insight into the
subject of his research. Two more of his works are also discussed: Iz prošlosti hrvatskoga
jezika and Historija književnosti naroda hrvatskoga i srpskoga, whose insight
and methodology were a novelty in Croatian philology at the time, and which
display Jagić’s ability to expound upon phenomena tied to languages and literature
from older periods.
