Abstract

Out of abundant philological works by Vatroslav Jagić and the academic papers
concerning him I will select few remarks important for this topic. It was emphasized
long ago that Vatroslav Jagić had written large number of texts, more precisely
it is a whole library of books and scholarly papers. The bibliographic references
concerning him and his work is as equally abundant. This is all applicable to
the aspect of oral literature. Nevertheless, he did not wrote a book which would
comprehensively cover certain oral genre, much less oral literature as a whole. I
will therefore limit myself to only few of his theoretical aspects, especially his system
of genres in oral literature as well as his valorisation of oral („folk“) literature. I will also consolidate the most important settings of previous experts on Jagić and
my own thoughts on the matter.

Keywords
