Abstract

A search for the exact positions of the Regge poles of 16O + 28Si elastic scattering S-matrix has been carried out using conventional optical model potential and over the energy range 33.16 MeV < ELab < 55 MeV. The S-matrix was then parametrized in terms of these poles and an analytical expression for the corresponding deflection function θ (l) was derived. θ (l) clearly revealed semiclassical features in 16O + 28Si elastic scattering as orbiting and rainbow phenomena for both real and complex potentials. Increasing the imaginary potential strength, dramatically shifts the Regge poles away from the real axis and the corresponding theoretical cross section shows a rapid (structureless) fall off beyond θcm = 90°. This effect was also discussed in terms of the nearside/farside decomposition of the theoretical cross section.
