Abstract
The starting point of this work is the approach to a work of art, which Matko Peić presented in the book 'Approach to an Artwork', in relation to the approaching a musical artwork through listening. The book was first published by 'Školska knjiga' publishing house in 1968, and several reprints followed. The book is a methodical manual for understanding fine art and aims to teach the reader how to look at, i.e., «read» a work of art. Fine art is spatial as an art form, expressed in space, while music is a temporal art that is expressed in time and may or may not remain in our memory. Therefore, it is necessary to listen to a piece of music for several times if we want to get to know it, just as it is necessary to observe a work of art for a long time if we want to remember and understand it. The paper will present the methodical approaches to repeated listening in music classes in general education schools, which leads to familiarization with a piece of music and, indirectly, to the development of students› musical taste. Namely, one of the educational goals of learning and teaching in Music Culture classes is to encourage the development of musical taste and critical thinking. Listening to and getting to know music enables the aesthetic education of students, and therefore the student should get to know musical works of different periods, styles, types, and genres, just as they should also get to know visual artwork in Art classes.
