Sažetak
This paper views the Croatian subdialects in Hungary, which, judging by their language features – considering the way they are characterised by the dialectological researches of the second half of the 20th century, which are being continued to this day – belong to all three main dialects of the Croatian Language. The Croatian subdialects registered on the territory of the present-day Hungary are therefore being viewed and described according to the fact that they belong to one of the mentioned main three Croatian dialects, but also to a certain Croatian ethnic group in Hungary. Except crucial (general) characteristics that the Croatian subdialects registered on the present-day Hungarian territory share with other Croatian subdialects – and thus accordingly forming a part of a certain dialect – this paper also aims to mention and clarify characteristics which can be considered subdialect-specific, in what the majority language plays an important role. The paper aims to give an insight into the research of the Croatian subdialects in Hungary, to mention and describe their general and specific characteristics, but also to remind that this group of subdialects is to be considered a valuable part of the Croatian linguistic heritage of the mentioned territory, which is why it has to be preserved.
