Sažetak

Based on available archival sources and earlier historiography the author reconstructed Ante Starčević’s candidacies and results for parliamentary elections. He determined in which elections he run and what successes he achieved. The dispersion and incompleteness of the original data does not allow for a more complete analysis, as numerous lists of voters and their party preferences are not available. However, through the systematic processing of preserved election records and through newspaper records, it was possible to complete the history of Starčević’s successful and unsuccessful candidacies. Starčević won eight mandates during the period 1861-1892, which show that he was successful in the electoral units of Rijeka County, but also won in Varaždin County and one Zagreb electoral district. These findings reveal to us Starčević’s activity in political life and reject the assessment that he was exclusively a party ideologue who cared little about practical politics.
