Abstract

Svetozar Pribićević (1875-1936) was one of the most prominent politicians in interwar Yugoslavia. A Serb from Croatia, leader of the Croatian-Serbian coalition, vice-president of the SHS National Council, minister of the interior affairs and education... He was one of the key people who set the line of centralism and unitarism of the state created after World War I, and later advocated for federalism. Despite this, very little is known about his youth and origin, which certainly influenced the formation of his character and outlook on society and politics. This article presents an account of his upbringing, family atmosphere and schooling primarily with the help of his brother Adam Pribićević’s records.
