Abstract

The paper examines immobility as an aesthetic and creative principle in the performance
triptych Osim svega: nisu vremena sad (Besides Everything: These Are Not the Times)
by Marina Petković Liker. The author and director consistently builds her artistic aesthetics
from the position of »being in an uncertain place« – a state of disorientation, weakness,
helplessness, and pain. In her latest triptych, this uncertain place represents a point on an
individual’s lifeline when much lies behind them, and only a little remains ahead – a moment
of realization that many things have already been done and are irreversible, while the
time that lies ahead offers opportunities for action, yet neither the strength nor the will to
act remains. Immobility, rigidity, and resignation emerge as outcomes of personal traumas
triggered by life’s realities and intensified by global crises. The thematic focus also determines
the mode of communication: the performative material is created through a unique
collaboration with the performers, drawing on their life and work experiences, emerging
from established relationships, and evolving from one performance to the next. Potential
events and the background of dramatic figures surface through premonitions, associations,
and slippages, while layered and elusive inner worlds unfold in details – close-ups of faces,
breathing, and minimal movements.
