Abstract
In the context of the social drama surrounding the stigma of misfits, I present the examples of Vladimir Dodig Trokut, a »no-artist«, and Krešo Kovačiček, a multimedia artist – both exceptional artistic personalities. Photo documentation of everyday life in the context of Erving Goffman’s research in his book The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life (1959), as far as Vladimir Dodig Trokut is concerned, can be illustrated by the words of his lawyer and posthumous representative Silvio Hraste: »His physical appearance — long hair and beard, a specific, completely unusual way of dressing – reflected his exceptional personality. In fact, all of us who knew him recognized that his physical appearance was his artistic concept« (cf. Pleše, 2018). Vladimir Dodig Trokut, a visual artist and art collector, worked until his death in 2018, creating actions, performances, and recycling concepts of social and mental engagement. He is widely known as the author and owner of the Antimuseum project. He described himself as an »anarchist, warrior, artist, writer, philosopher, mystic..., anti-conceptualist from a family of Croatian chieftains«. Another example of the stigma of misfits is Krešo Kovačiček, a performance artist, graphic artist, musician, professor, and curator from Rijeka. At one point, Kovačiček mysteriously disappeared from his city without a trace. This event is documented in the exceptional experimental film Krešo by his friends Marina Musulin and Zoran Krema. The film tells the story of the search for their missing friend/artist and concludes with a happy ending.
