Sažetak

The article explains the distinctive features of the seven names of the toponyms of Vinodol: Dedomir, Desimer, Mojdruža luka, Netermac, Zabral, Zelemišalj and Žigovošće. The author outlines her etymology of the mentioned toponyms and concludes that their names belong to the earliest layer of Old Croatian geographical names, which trace their ancestry to the Proto-Slavic language. Five toponyms: Dedomir, Desimer, Zelemišalj, Žigovošće, Mojdruža luka, were created from Old Croatian binomial personal names using the Proto-Slavic possessive adjective suffix -j, and were created after the migration of the Croats to Vinodol, no later than the 15th century, when the word formation with the suffix -j, here, was replaced in its entirety by the suffix -ov and -ev, respectively. The toponym Netermac has developed due to the mixing of the Chakavian dialect with the North-Italian dialects in the Middle Ages, and the toponym Zabral originates from the Old Croatian military terminology. All the researched toponyms, except for the toponym Mojdruža luka, are still in use. At the same time parts of the personal names that are found in the basis of six geographical names are also interpreted in detail: Dedomir, Desimer, Mojdruža luka, Netermac, Zelemišalj and Žigovošće, and the earliest confirmations of these and many similar personal names are mentioned, primarily those from the Old Croatian denominations.
