Abstract

The Adriatic black spruce (Abies pardei Gaus.): the endemic black spruce from the eastern Adriatic subMediterranean (Abies pardei Gaus.) grows naturally in the subMediterranean south western coastal region of Croatia between Rijeka and Makarska. Its three main sites are Vinodol above Crikvenica, the central Velebit slopes near Karlobag and the eastern slopes of the Biokovo mountain villages from Rašćane to Igrane, and all of these it also has less sites threatened with foresting harvesting. Its habitat is typical turbulent coastal karst slopes, where it grows beneath the beech belt, mainly with coastal oak in Mediterranean forests of AbietiQuercion Quez. et al.
