THE DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM IN THE REGIONS OF CROATIAN LITTORAL AND GORSKI KOTAR FROM 1945 TO 1980

Sažetak
The article surveys the development of tourism in Croatian Littoral and Gorski Kotar over a 40 years span i.e. between 1945 and 1985. Covering this relatively long period, the author explains a role of tourism in Croatia's economic development. Special attention is paid to analyzing the measures for stimulating the extended reproduction in Croatian tourism from 1966 to 1976 (when the largest part of Croatian tourist infrastructure was built) and its influence on the tourist development in Croatian Littoral and Gorski Kotar, altogether presented through analyzing the indicators and results of the mentioned measures. The author ranks 20 Croatian municipalities according to the size of income from catering industry and tourism. The role of the tourism of Croatian Littoral and Gorski Kotar in the development of Adriatic region is shown through data on catering industry's share and rank within the income of some municipalities in Croatia and Croatian Littoral in 1956 and 1980. The author also presents the indexes of income per capita in some tourist municipalities of Croatia and Croatian Littoral, in relation to the Croatian average. The article presents a separate analysis of influence the tourism exerted to employment and the life standard of population, as well as the on the efficacy of capital invested in hotel and catering industry of Croatia from 1960 to 1990. This is demonstrated by the movement of average capital coefficient, as well as the movement of the supply of capital. Finally, he analyzes the characteristics of certain elements in tourist supply, especially of accommodation and its structure in Croatian Littoral and Gorski Kotar.
