Sažetak

The author surveys the history of constructing the monastery and church of St Anthony of Padua in Crikvenica. Planning the construction of monastery started in 1927 when the first Franciscan monk, provincial Augustin Juničić came to Crikvenica. The monastery was completed by the end of 1930, and already in 1934, demolishment of the old church of St Anthony begun, to clear a place for a new church edifice. The church project was made by engineer Viktor Zelinsky from Zagreb, and was based on a design by sculptor Zvonko Car. In 1934, the Christmas Eve Mass was served in a new church. Over the following years, church equipment was acquired, and the church was eventually solemnly consecrated in 1939. A church bell tower was built in several phases, from 1933 to 2009, when it was finally erected to a planned height of 39 meters, cross included.
