MOUNTAINEERING IN THE REGION OF CRIKVENICA: Historical Overview

Mountaineering in this region has a long tradition: in 2005. the eightieth anniversary of the mountaineering society in Crikvenica and the twentieth anniversary of the mountaineering society Strilež were celebrated. During the 1820s the first society in Crikvenica was established under the name Drenin, and in Bribir under the name Zagradski vrh which was later changed to Viševica. Mountaineers of these societies visited all mountaineering destinations in the nearer and wider area and even went to the neighboring countries. They have marked mountaineering trails and paths throughout Vinodol and preserved most of these paths.
