Sažetak

The carob tree (Ceratonia siliqua L.) is a Mediterranean fruit species with a long tradition of cultivation in the southern regions of Croatia. Although neglected for years, this species holds significant potential in Croatia, particularly in organic production. In addition to diseases, carob trees can be affected by various pests, among which scale insects are particularly significant. These pests disrupt physiological processes, cause branch dieback, and excrete large amounts of honeydew,
subsequently promoting the growth of sooty mold fungi. Beetles damage the wood by boring tunnels and galleries and can also affect mature fruits. Among lepidopteran pests, the carob moth Ectomyelois (Apomyelois) ceratoniae Zeller is particularly noteworthy, as its larvae develop within the fruit, reducing its commercial value. Some of the aforementioned pest species have been confirmed in Croatia, while data on the presence and distribution of others remain unavailable. Pest management measures are primarily preventive, while direct sustainable pest management practices include pheromone-based techniques and biological control methods.
