Abstract

Following the completion of the restoration and reorganization of the historical
archive of the Monastery of St Francis in Cherso-Cres, the author presents the
manuscripts custodied at the monastery which undoubtedly constitute the most
significant part of the preserved documentary material. The paper describes some
forty documents dating from the fifteenth century onwards, most of which focus
on the economic contents, such as the books of revenues and expenses, although
there are other manuscripts which go beyond the purely material interest. The
fifteenth-century manuscripts are quite significant as they contain the theological,
apologetic and homiletical works of St James of the Marches and St Bernardine of
Siena, as well as the letters and sermons of St Isidore of Seville and St Augustine of
Hippo. These works, alongside some other preserved works, are the most precious
part of the historic monastic archive of Cherso-Cres.
