Abstract
This paper deals with the importance of conducting sexual education in the family as a mechanism for preventing harmful and risky sexual behaviour of children and young people. Children’s sexual behaviours appear from an early age and can be classified through three categories according to their harmfulness. The paper argues the occurrence of harmful children’s behaviours that later turn into risky behaviours of young people and adolescents, which is why the importance of the family as the primary socialization unit implementing adequate sexual education of children is apostrophized. A review of the results of relevant research provided an insight into the occurrence of children’s harmful behaviour, abuse, and arguments were presented about the importance of the family in the form of timely and adequate sexual education of children, all with the aim of understanding sexual education as a mechanism for preventing harmful and risky sexual behaviour of children and young people.
