Abstract

Along the coastal slopes from Mt Bitoraj and Viševica up to Vinodol seashore 1,679 terrestrial plant taxa are registered; that is among the richest local floras in Croatia since Mt Velebit. The endemic and rare plants are the most abundant in local firwoods of Abies pardei within the Supra-Mediterranean belt above Vinodol cliffs, and also in Mt Viševica peak, as well as in sea capes of Takal and Kačjak, needing to be established as natural reserves. The poorest, trivial and uniform flora there occurs in valley bottom, and in the beechwoods around Mt Bitoraj. In the valley hamlets of Vinodol we registered 230 archaic plant names in local Chakavian dialect, and these ones are older and richer than in adjacent coastal towns with a stronger litterate impact.
