Sažetak

This article deals with a quantitative assessment of the efficiency of enterprises in EU countries that fall into the accommodation sector. The analysis is based on company accounting data and the results are then aggregated to the country level using median values. Country efficiency is derived from the performance of a total of 11,070 enterprises between 2018 and 2021, which also allows monitoring the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Considering the diversity of tourism in the EU countries, they have been divided into six groups. Except for 2020, the ranking of countries by efficiency level was found to be relatively stable. The first position was occupied by France, the last by Latvia. At the time of the strongest restrictions (i.e. 2020), countries in the third and fourth clusters improved in the ranking, where shortfalls in accommodation demand were replaced by resident demand.
Examples include the Czech Republic and Slovenia.
