Abstract

Over 100 diseases have been identified on strawberries, with fruit-infecting pathogens among the most significant and challenging in cultivation. Twelve fruit diseases have been described in detail, including well-known ones in Croatia such as gray mold or fruit rot (Botrytis cinerea) and anthracnose fruit rot (Colletotrichum spp.). However, several other fruit diseases remain poorly recognized, despite their frequent occurrence under local agroecological conditions and their potential to cause economic damage in certain years. These include stem-end fruit rot (Gnomoniopsis comari) and leather rot (Phytophthora cactorum). Stem-end rot is characterized by brown fruit decay with abundant fungal sporulation, while leather rot presents a distinctive leathery texture on the fruit surface.
